things have happened

there was very upsetting news within the quinn ranks this week. my sisters' vintage emporium, dirty fabulous, has had to shut down due to a fire in their building. lots of uncertainty and sadness in the air. but they have lots of loving support around them. right, people!

some new sketches.

i had the idea that emily was hunting birds to hang them on her branches so she might fly....but i don't think she's that mean. i hope not.

the etsy store will be closed next weekend for a the Crafty Market on Sunday. I plan to have a lot more stuff uploaded to sell afterwards (unless of course I manage to sell it all). For anyone in Dublin on Sunday, drop into the market in Newmarket Square. It's always a great day.

listening to joanna newsom's sawdust and diamonds on repeat. at least 10 times today already. still haven't got the new album yet.

birds like flying

here's one i posted a few days ago finished, a little more defined. and another few, which are basically different versions of the same image. but i like them all. though one's unfinished. and the last pic is a giant bird outside the kitchen this morning. awesome.

altered egos

a little side project. not that you can really have a side project without linear direction....but anyway. i might tell more of this another time. for now here's just a photoshopped mock cd cover. a rushed job, but please tell me what you think of it.

also, i think this is amazing;

found on unurth. check out laguna's flickr page, especially love his/her paintings.

überblogage

so today i put together a little box set, something of a promotional pack to send around to knowledgable folks. i was thinking of making one or two up to sell on Etsy. there's 2 or 3 printed books (with images from hier ünd hier), a selection of postcard-size prints and maybe one or two other fun bits. kind of a selected works of me.

would anyone be interested in that kinda thing? i could do customised ones too, with original drawings. talk to me people.

thanks to euphiophone for sharing this; very old trees

in return, here's more stock textures on flickr. potentially of no use, but i think they're pretty.

i started working on this late last night. there's almost intention in there, right. i plan to do more with it. however i am very fickle...

listening to leSac vs Pip. awesome.

emily in the making

here's a new one, nearly done. the usual dimensions of these ones, the acrylic on card, are 12.5cm x 24.5cm (5 x 9 inches). people have asked about her story. what stories i have for her, i haven't figured out how to tell just yet, or they're coming out backwards. so, i think the plan is to just keep churning out pictures until i feel i've enough to form a selection of narratives. i'm not good with directing creativity. anyway, here you go;

and a few others in progress

tran nguyen

deviantart is an awfully time-consuming space to wander through. once you start going through peoples "favourites" collections, whole evenings go by unnoticed.

can't remember where i first saw her work, but i happened again upon the lovely paintings by tran nguyen earlier, and they're just so good. love when you see someone's work and you immediately want to just create things. any thing!

oh, and here's her deviantart page.

new sketches and old paintings

new photos on flickr, drawings and photos;

spent some of the last two days recording some guitar parts for a friends album (the band in question are remaining pretty quiet on the subject for now). will be a while before i have something to put up here from it, but was really pleased with how it went. many thanks to the lads and to the very patient and understanding shane of K9 studios. unfortunately i've no photos, and this is what happens when i try to draw real people with beards and clothes.

took some new photos of a painting i did a year ago, which i plan to put on etsy, along with a few other older portrait style paintings. any interest, let me know.

Rossmore's wood

i went to rossmore (a forest park in monaghan) yesterday to find a particular tree, but i think it was somewhere amongst these.

apparently 60% of the wood in the park is for timber production, according to coillte. here's a pdf on their management plan. this is likely all very necessary and a long-running normality. they have replanting plans in there too. still, i do find i warm to people much easier when they leave shit alone. photos from rossmore here.

had one of those annoying evenings where i start too many pictures to know what to do with. many shades of emily.

but i managed to get a good bunch of older ones finished (save for the odd final touch up), so all is well.

particularly fond of this one.

lisa falzon

loving lisa falzon's work!

check out her blog and shop. plus she does a great step-by-step guide on how she puts her digital pieces together, which can be downloaded here.

so i make these sketch books, as i often buy or find sheets of loose paper to draw and paint on. unfortunately, i tend to get quite attached to them. but i've decided this one, which is mainly about kingfishers and godly things, i'm going to put force myself to put on etsy. however, i haven't decided whether i'd put it up as a whole or as seperate drawings ....
