Splash Art Festival - 12th November

I'm taking part in the 2nd Splash Art Festival on the 12th and 13th of November. There are 27 artists and performers, with live music, photography, painting, design, wine, plus it's in the Back Loft, which, for me, is one of the most interesting exhibition spaces in Dublin. Its also run by Magda Nowacka, who is awesome.

I'll have a bunch of new work that, considering my hermitic nature, really ought to see the outside of my studio at least once this year. Here's one I finished yesterday. Considering the title of Frank the Lonely Brain-Eating Mushroom-Zombie...... He doesn't really eat brains....

I learned through helpful twittering that these days Emily is sporting a high chignon with a fringe. Handy to know for googling those reference pics.

hello world

i've been unusually slow to update lately, but everything slows in this season, i know we're all still friends. but just to show this does not signal a lack of creativity, i thought i'd offer some recent work, and so spent the morning putting this together. enjoy;

also, here's a video from the summer, practicing with Bouts for the HWCH festival. i think this was about the second time we played this song. daniel, you're awesome;

i'll be in Twisted Pepper this Thursday for Flashlight, along with a whole bunch of other lovely creative folk. please come along.

also, i'm going to miss this, but for anyone who likes random music experimentation, this is likely to be pretty special; ed devane's Stop/Run which is kicking off tonight.

breakthru artists

It's been a long snowy weekend. hope everyone's holding up with the chill! personally, i like the snow and ice. i have a fondness for such times when you've no choice but to give way to nature. it's always good to see people made to slow down, a sort of mass acceptance that nothing is necessary or definate.
before the snow hit, i took part in a music/art party and exhibition in jamestown studios, dublin, with breakthru artists. love taking part in these little collaborative pop-up shows. always a good friendly vibe. some sweet tunage by locoswing and sive. super impressed with mark dudley's playing (with both bands), expecially on the gypsy jazz stuff and sadhbh o'sullivan has some great songs with a lovely understated, earnest tone to her voice. thanks to elaine and the gang for inviting me along, look forward to more festivities in futureland, ya? anyway, here's pics, and check links for more info;

and here was my contribution. it's acrylic on canvas. first time in ages i've done a big piece i've been happy with (this one itself has been on my wall in various forms for over a year). definately want to work on a few more. i'll post later with detailed shots.

Splash Art Fest

So last weekend we had the Splash Art Festival in the wonderful Back Loft, Dublin. For Saturday there was a good party vibe going and had a big crowd all day, until close at 11pm. Sunday was still a great turn out, but a lot more relaxed and stress-free, which was much appreciated, got a chance to talk to some of the other lovely artists. Magda, awesome as she is, had organised enough free wine and food to do both days. The baked pastries on Sunday were particularly yummy. Was a great weekend, if slightly exhausting. Would certainly be up for another one (note; bring large drill next time). Anyway, if i come across anyone who took better photos from the show, i'll post a link, for now here's a few;

on the way home saturday night, we called in briefly to Bernard Shaw (there was a Secret Wars battle on but too jammers to get a look in). But I did get to see Denise Nestor's amazing work, which I think is still on display there, go check it out.

Dates for the Diary!

Here's an update on fun things I'll be doing over the next month;

  1. First off SPLASH ART FESTIVAL, this weekend in the Back Loft, read more about it here. Should be awesome, I do hope you can make it.

  2. The Ferocious Mingle Market, in Newmarket Square, 13th of June. Fancy dress optional.

  3. Point Village Comic Festival on 12th of June;

  4. Then there's the Crafty Market in Shebeen Chic on the 6th and the 20th of June. Still have to hear back whether I have a stall, but hopefully will be at one or the other, if not both. Its a lovely spot and a great market, I recommend checking it out anyway.

Personally I think you should come to the all. And here's a newbie, Emily on the hunt for sweeter dreams;

Offset 2009

next week some of my all-time favourite illustrators (tara mcpherson, david shrigley, james jean, among others) are going to be in dublin for Offset 2009. the tickets were crazy expensive for someone with no regular income, but for the lineup of artists, annoyingly worth it. i may just yet peddle a number of less significant internal organs to blag a ticket.

it's a 3-day conference in liberty hall theatre, from the 6th to the 8th Nov, but there are various other fun happenings leading up to it. they're still adding events on the site so keep an eye out.

so far, i plan on heading to Peepshow, a print exhibition in Monster Truck on Francis st., opening Monday 2nd, and the Social session in Twisted Pepper, saturday night.

awesome.

I will have some work in a group exhibition in The Front Lounge, Parliament St, Dublin, opening on the Friday 11th of September, 7pm - 9pm.

Unfortunately, I'll not be around for the opening as i'll be in Italy for my brother's wedding.

There'll be work by these artists also;

gonna be a few of us doing live art type stuffs (yes, drawing while other people are in the room...but bigger) and of course there shall be music and other such wonderous funliness, and its free, so please do pop in. i'll also bring some little things to flog on the day, so if you're interested in purchasing anything, let me know.

It is open every day except Mondays and Tuesdays.

---------------------------------------------

Check it out, there's lots to see and its organised by some very lovely people, Tia and Emma with help from the fantastical Bui Bolg street theatre complany.
I was down for a few days and had a wonderful time and met many interesting and creative folk. i intend to worm my way into taking part in more of their shows, they do great work and are certainly an inspiration for a procrastinating hermit like myself.

I have a selection of prints and water-colours down there, a handful of which are already selling (woohoo!). if anyone can't make it but is interesting in buying from me, you can contact me through myspace or barryquinnart@gmail.com and my work can be viewed in my studio, in La Catedral off thomas street, dublin.

Take care,
b.
