A very good day

i entered a competition on illustrators ireland last week and won tickets to Offset 2009 (i blogged about it a few days ago, in case you don't know what it is). definition of awesome.

it was actually a pretty cool competition as it involved having to look through all the IGI's illustration portfolio's. give em a look through, some cool stuff in there.

anyway, hugemongous thanks to IGI and scamp.ie! so many brilliant artists all under one roof... sooo excited!

selling things

getting a big bunch of drawings ready for the monthly craft market the dublin food coop host in newmarket square. hoping to get into the fair on december 6th. have to go through a selection process, and there'll probably be plenty applying, but even if i don't get into it, i'll find somewhere to sell things. maybe some generous folk will give me an empty room somewhere.

once there're all framed, i'll probably have them around 50ish euro each(always a guide price). there's also the random books and wood-mounted watercolours, card drawings.....i've a serious amount of crap to offload... and since this will probably be the one time i venture willingly out into the real world this season, let me know of special interests or requests. do enough people read this to justify a mailing list?...

anyway, i'll get plenty of decent photos of it all framed and a page up on the site of everything, maybe even set prices, and, gosh darn it, why not some titles too. what one would not do for PR.

in other news; on repeat, headphones a must - dan le sac vs scroobius pip and the amazing jacques brel (these songs don't cease to make me shiver)

now i must lie on the floor for half an hour...(what one would not do for a masseuse)

Offset 2009

next week some of my all-time favourite illustrators (tara mcpherson, david shrigley, james jean, among others) are going to be in dublin for Offset 2009. the tickets were crazy expensive for someone with no regular income, but for the lineup of artists, annoyingly worth it. i may just yet peddle a number of less significant internal organs to blag a ticket.

it's a 3-day conference in liberty hall theatre, from the 6th to the 8th Nov, but there are various other fun happenings leading up to it. they're still adding events on the site so keep an eye out.

so far, i plan on heading to Peepshow, a print exhibition in Monster Truck on Francis st., opening Monday 2nd, and the Social session in Twisted Pepper, saturday night.

awesome.

SSTN @ DEAF in Filmbase

blurry pics and sketches in the dark...

went to see second square to none peoples in filmbase yesterday, part of dublin's annual electronic arts fest. euphiophone and melesta were a bit awesome, great tunes, and seemly oblivious to the crowd, in an only likable manner that suggested they could have been at home in the kitchen discussing what to do for dinner. i did feel urged to dance. the other acts were great, but in my ignorance and absence of memory, i have no idea who was who, so for a more informed overview, check out second square to none and euphioblog over the coming days. overall, was an awesome gig, setup and stage looked great with a good turnout of many a fine folk. in regards the blurry pictures, i'm not a fan of camera flashes at gigs. i prefer grainy shots in grainy venues. oh, and some drawings. thanks to shane for his lighting assistance :)

one to forty, and counting

after a day in a wood factory with jon i'm now sitting at my almost finished, but still quite functional, desk. despite our devil-may-care attitude we (by that i mean he) managed to put together a fine solid table, not a wobble in sight. now we have all sorts of plans involving phone books and shoe boxes. it shall be glorious. i was also quite horrified at the amount of waste wood for the burners or chippers. was depressing poking through huge bins full of potential canvases, frames, boxes, where-the-wild-things-are-fort-building-materials...

also, these are pictures i scanned in months ago but arms refused to entertain photoshop/cropping/filing requirements for web publishing. they're quite upset with me now. i'll post just a few here. the rest will be up on the site another day. anyway, some things go yonder...

old book, new story and new book, old story

plus, more things to do with cardboard waste, mouldy curtains and scrap prints. the illustrations are from ages ago, but i shamelessly still find them terribly funny.
