Thanks to everyone who throughout this year gave me support and monies for drawing my odd disfigured, malnourished bodies and various tree bits. it is a most joyful occupation turning scraps of paper and cardboard into something people want to put on their wall. equal thanks to people who are just there, doing the listening and looking and speaking and sharing. i personally am looking forward to a whole new year of music and art and learning.
in the spirit of compassion and personal growth i wish to share and reflect on the words of my wise and wonderful sister, as blessing for the year to come;
b.

went to IMMA, Dublin's contemporary art museum, yesterday to see the Art of the 90s collection they're exhibiting at the minute (running until april 2010). there was an ann hamilton piece that just had me grinning like a child. a sheet of material, organza, i think, hung like curtains from the ceiling in a circle, rotates, alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise. its quite lovely when inside it. one of those inexplicable feelings of nostalgia. made me think of the scene in eternal sunshine when jim carey's a child under the huge table with his mother walking around him. i find some of her work amazing (though the images on her site, linked above, are a little too small to get any appreciation of it).

thisisnotashop
bringing some pics up for thisisnotashop's annual christmas art fair, taking place this coming weekend, December 17th to 19th. unfortunately it will be their last one as they're closing. tis a shame, its a nice little spot run by lovely people and there's alway all manner of things going on in it. check the site for more details.
anywho, its a first come first serve arrangement for the artists who contribute, so here's the pics i'll hopefully be putting in it;

i do get awfully uncomfortable with this dirty naming/pricing business...
i'd recommend popping along if you're in the city, even if you've no intention to buy anything. there's always loads of stuff they manage to squeeze into the two rooms from all price-ranges and styles.

Random weekend photos
i was kindly invited to join in a session with a band in formation consisting of members of green lights and lines drawing circles, two awesome dublin bands who, as far as i know, are presently absent from the scene. but these three fine gentlemen (not sure if there's a name there yet) are producing all manner of pleasant sounds. as they are known to say; watch this space.
of the 200 photos i took over the 4 days, 100 were of trees....i mean, lets face it, there's only so many pictures of trees you can look at. why would anyone in their right mind want a hundred photos of trees...
little visit to dirty fabulous...
going to spend the week getting my etsy shop sorted out. excting, yes?

inspiration
been going through the archives of artistaday
bruce holwerda. though his other paintings are full of a great deal more detail and colour and imagination, this one is probably my favourite. love it.
the ladies & hats collection is particularly nice
also, check out Alexandros Vasmoulakis, i think his stuff is beautiful...
